Exploitation of children is caused by many factors. It is not just a matter of poverty, but also of social and cultural factors. The rapid growth of information and telecommunication technology, especially the internet, has played a major role in exacerbating the phenomenon of child sex tourism. Terre des Hommes Netherlands provides direct services for vulnerable children, improvements have been made by connecting basic services, especially education and health. These services are provided through safe shelters at the border of Thailand, Lao PDR and Cambodia.

The anti-child trafficking network is inspiring other stakeholders in at least two ways: first, by working together on the same issue; and second, bybuilding the same set of networks for other issues under the umbrella of child protection. By having more stakeholders equipped with knowledge and protection systems, it is hoped that in the future more children can be protected while current mechanisms are improved.
