Working children
13 year old Nandini, seen in the picture above, never went to school. She works as a weaver to supplement her family's income. Thanks to local project partner Society for Human Education (SHE) Nandini attends non formal education classes for out-of-school children. Non formal education provides working children the opportunity to study at a convenient place, pace and time. Nandini is studying for her 10th standard diploma.
Mathagondapalli Education Centre (MEC)
The overall objective of MEC is to ensure quality developmental opportunities for thousands of children in India. The project works towards this through model education, the Mathagondapalli Model School (MMS), a residential school for underprivileged children and capacity enhancement of Terre des Hommes Netherlands project partners in India.
Mathagondapalli Model School
The project has a model school (MMS) to provide quality education to under privileged children, e.g. children from sex workers, scheduled cast, scheduled tribe, from slum areas etc. The children are selected by the Terre des Hommes project partners.
The curriculum of the school emphasizes physical and artistic development and self-confidence and their self-esteem building. In addition, awareness is raised among children on critical health issues: air and water borne diseases, communicable diseases, personal hygiene, physical and mental change in adolescent period, first aid and nutrition.
