Working children
13 year old Nandini, seen in the picture above, never went to school. She works as a weaver to supplement her family's income. Thanks to local project partner Society for Human Education (SHE) Nandini attends non formal education classes for out-of-school children. Non formal education provides working children the opportunity to study at a convenient place, pace and time. Nandini is studying for her 10th standard diploma.
Disablity Prevention and Rehabilitation
This project aims to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities by realising their rights to participation, protection and development.
The project works towards this by focusing on education, health and socio-economic development. The project provides special needs education to children and youth with disabilities. It runs integrated early learning centres with abled and disabled children, inclusive education at primary and secondary level and vocational training. Severely disabled children are visited at home for home-based education. To improve the health of disabled children the project provides supplementary food. Communities receive health education on immunisation, family planning, personal hygiene, anti natal and pre natal care and awareness on prevention of disabilities. To improve the socio-economic status of youth with disabilities the project facilitates income generating activities. People with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities participate in self-help groups to improve their economic situation.
