Working children
13 year old Nandini, seen in the picture above, never went to school. She works as a weaver to supplement her family's income. Thanks to local project partner Society for Human Education (SHE) Nandini attends non formal education classes for out-of-school children. Non formal education provides working children the opportunity to study at a convenient place, pace and time. Nandini is studying for her 10th standard diploma.
Children Education Programme (CEP)
In the Kishoregonj District POPI works on providing access to education in areas where there is not (enough) access and on improving the quality of existing, partially government funded, education. POPI runs twenty early learning development centres and six primary schools in areas where children otherwise wouldn't have access to education. In order to improve existing education POPI supports ten registered and community schools with a focus on teacher training.
Parents are actively involved in the education of their children through the parents' teachers meetings in the early learning centres where they are informed about early childhood development, personal hygiene, nutritious food and child rights. In the primary schools parents form School Management Committees to be involved in the education of their children and improve quality of the school.
Besides early learning centres and primary schools the Children Education Programme supports quality education for 55 orphans.
