Programmes

Terre des Hommes Netherlands has clustered its activities into four programmes: Education, health, socio-economic development and children that are vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. The organisation also provides humanitarian relief aid when an emergency arises.

Education

Education gives children a chance of a better future. Children are taught to think for themselves, make their own choices and to stand up for themselves. This prevents others from abusing them, which makes education for everyone an important weapon in the battle against inequality and poverty.

Socio-economic Development

Terre des Hommes helps children in poor families. By giving small loans for starting up a business, we enable families to raise their income. As a result of this, the necessity of child labour is reduced. This means children can go to school and have more time to play.

Health

Terre des Hommes makes health care accessible. Many of the diseases that children contract are easily preventable. Information and vaccinations are of vital importance for prevention, as well as healthy food, clean drinking water and toilets. Apart from giving access to healthcare, Terre des Hommes trains local people to give information to their own community.

Exploitation

Terre des Hommes protects children against exploitation. Special attention is paid to victims of child trafficking, child prostitution and child labour. With a complete approach consisting of prevention, relief, and prosecution of the offenders we want to put a stop to these serious violations of children's rights.
