East Africa

Exploitation

Child labour, child exploitation and abuse constitute a serious violation of children's rights. With an integrated approach of prevention, shelter for victims and prosecution of perpetrators, Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to put an end to child exploitation by:

  • rescuing and sheltering children from sexual abuse and exploitative child labour
  • creating awareness on child's rights and child abuse and in particular sexual exploitation
  • providing legal aid and medical support for abused children
  • building the capacity of all project partners in East Africa in child protection policy

The East Africa programme to eliminate child exploitation focuses on two forms of exploitation: (1) the worst forms of child labour and (2) sexual abuse and exploitation. Apart from fighting child labour and the worst forms of child exploitation, much attention is paid to protecting children - both victims of exploitation, and children that run the risk of being exploited on the short term.
