Introduction to East Africa of new Executive Director
Mr. Albert Jaap van Santbrink, the new Executive Director of Terre des Hommes Netherlands, arrived in Nairobi on 12 April for his 5 day introduction to the region. Goal of the visit was to familiarise himself with Terre des Hommes Netherlands' work in East Africa.
His introduction trip took him to eight different projects, in the fields of HIV/AIDS assistance, micro credit, livelihoods improvement, community based development, stop child exploitation and vocational training. In Kenya, Mr. Van Santbrink visited Ruma AIDS Programme in Rarieda (Nyanza) and Ruben Centre, COMET, Nairobits and Mukuru kwa Ruben slums in Nairobi. In the Mara region in Tanzania he partook in the field visits to AFREDA, Musomabits, Community Alive and UMABU projects. In addition, the Executive Director made a courtesy call to Mr. Hans Docter, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Nairobi.
On 1 March, Mr. Van Santbrink joined Terre des Hommes Netherlands to replace former Executive Director Mr. Ron van Huizen in the Head Office in The Hague. The new Executive Director brings in extensive experience in International Cooperation; previously he has worked for Wereldkinderen (World Children) and SOS Children's Villages in various management positions.
