Contribution to The Mater Heart Run
On behalf of Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Executive Director Mr. Albert Jaap van Santbrink presented a cheque worth 400,000 Kenyan shilling (equivalent to € 3,428) to Dr. John Muriithi, CEO of The Mater Hospital in Nairobi on 17 April. The Terre des Hommes Netherlands' contribution is designated for the Mater Heart Fund. The Mater Hospital organises The Mater Heart Run each year in May to fundraise locally for the Mater Cardiac Programme.
The Mater Cardiac Programme is a partnership programme of Terre des Hommes Netherlands and The Mater Hospital, providing paediatric cardiological care. The programme aims at assisting young heart patients from underprivileged backgrounds to receive life-saving heart treatment. At the same time, as some heart conditions are acquired, great emphasis is put on prevention by organising sensitisation and screening camps.
The eighth edition of The Mater Heart Run will take place on Saturday 14 May 2011. The event targets to raise 300 million Kenyan shilling, in order to assist 230 (already identified) children.
