Mrs. Ban Ki Moon visits Sarakasi Trust Hospital Project
Mrs. Ban Ki Moon, wife of the United Nations Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon, visited Sarakasi Trust Hospital Project in Kenyatta National Hospital on 1 April 2011.
While her husband was on official duty in Nairobi, Mrs. Ban took the opportunity to get to know several social projects in Kenya’s capital. Sarakasi Trust Hospital Project, partner of Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Kenya, was one of them.
The Sarakasi Trust Hospital Project offers edutainment for hospitalised children. Kenyatta National Hospital is Kenya’s largest referral hospital, accommodating many complicated cases from all over the country who are admitted for prolonged times. The Sarakasi entertainers break the monotony of the hospital routine, bring a smile to the little patients’ faces and thus assist in their recovery.
Mrs. Ban attended the weekly programme of the Sarakasi clowns and clapped to the music of the children’s songs. Later she visited the wards, where she spoke with several patients and their parents. Several times she expressed what an excellent initiative the Sarakasi Trust Hospital project is.
