Kenya

In Kenya poverty manifests itself in the form of hunger, malnutrition, illiteracy, lack of shelter and failure to access essential social services such as basic education, health care, water and sanitation. Due to the tough economic times recently, many children have ended up working to supplement household income. The HIV/AIDS prevalence has highly contributed to the increased numbers of orphans and vulnerable children. Such children are at risk of exploitation especially the girl child while children with disability are often neglected. The poverty levels faced by persons with disability are far higher than for the rest of the population.
